Do you enter a project depending on God’s strength and power to finish it? Or do you weigh the pros and cons of most opportunities – thinking only about your strengths and often completely disregarding God’s supernatural ability to empower us to accomplish what He wants and desires.

I had a job a couple of years ago that completely scared me. A job I felt completely inadequate to take on. But, somehow I managed to “yes” to something that really scared me. Something that put me in a position to share my faith and rely on my faith in a way I had never before. That particular job required me to interact with people who Jesus loved, but I didn’t. I was hired to be a counselor at a crisis pregnancy center.

What did I know about women in crisis that were pregnant? I just knew the director and she knew I needed a job. She also knew I loved Jesus. And I had the skills to do the easy stuff. But, to counsel someone who considered aborting her baby? To share Jesus with someone who was flipping out because she finally got caught by her last bad decisions? This was way, way beyond my abilities.

It all started uncomfortable. But, somehow, God stepped in and took my measly offerings and created relationships with these women. I began to look forward to seeing each of them. I looked forward to sharing Jesus with them. I looked forward to their questions about God. I made it my goal to make these women feel respected, cared about and loved. I wasn’t there to pound Jesus into their heads and threaten the reality of Hell. Who’s going to make a real, solid, life changing decision about following Christ when she doesn’t know where she will lay her head that night?

God supernaturally empowered me to create a relationship with a few women He so dearly loves. He gave me the privilege to join His work and reach out to them in His love.

Romans 15:13 “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

What about you? Where is God calling you to “let go” and trust HIM?
