As we study God’s Word, we realize it becomes alive and active in our lives. (Hebrews 4:12) The time we spend studying God’s Word is an investment that brings blessing and spiritual growth to our daily living. Going deeper in God’s Word with iStudy requires a WEEKLY 2-3 hour investment that includes personal Bible reading in order to answer weekly study guide questions, discussing the questions once a week with other students in a live online video meeting, individually watching/listening to the weekly video teaching, and reading or listening to the lesson wrap-up notes.
Come aboard iStudy as we explore, learn and apply these two rich books.
The illustration depicts the high priest laying aside his richly ornamented garments to humbly enter the Holy of Holies to make the annual atonement for his own sins and the sins of Israel. The Levitical priesthood was a picture of the high priesthood of Jesus, who laid aside His rightful riches in glory to enter the true Holy of Holies, offering His own sinless blood for the eternal atonement of the sins of the world. Hebrews 1:3 explained, “…when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high….”
The Levitical high priest should have laid aside his priestly robes at the moment the veil was torn in two at the crucifixion of Jesus, because at that moment the work of atonement was finished. Sadly it took 40 years and the total destruction of the temple by the Romans before the high priest of Israel was forced to cease his work.
Many died without seeing the reality of Christ’s work as eternal high priest, but those Jews exposed to this book of Hebrews would have had seen this truth made clear.
The goal is for it to become clear to you as well.
Then we’ll continue to explore, learn and apply 1st Peter which has been called a survival manual for saints who are suffering. It presents God’s strategy for holding up rather than folding up in the face of trials.
