Wanted: Losers. Sign up now!

This week I traveled to San Antonio to visit my best friend, my mother. Little did I know of the God-orchestrated message I would hear from a pastor at her church. The point that hit home was you could be guaranteed to lose something when you made the choice to follow Christ. Doesn’t sound like a successful PR campaign does it?

When you signed up to be a Christian did you know you signed up for suffering? And losing? Do you think you would have reconsidered if you knew? Many of us don’t consider the cost of being a Christ-follower. We boldly face each day wondering why it seems we have a black cloud over us. This week, Mike Harding shares the idea that we need to be “ready to suffer and to lose” for being a follower of Christ.

We also need to be looking for the comfort Jesus will bring. Jesus is big enough to fill in the gaps and restore what matters – Matter of fact, He promises to do so. . .

“’Truly I tell you,’ Jesus replied, ‘no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age: homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—along with persecutions—and in the age to come eternal life’.”  Mark 10:29-30 (NIV)
