And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Col.3:17
William Carrey once said, “Expect great things from God. Attempt great things for God.” I certainly agree with him. I love that we can dream big and great things for God and His Kingdom, but I love that we can do the small things for God, too. The small decisions we make, like the words we say and the simple actions we do every day matter to Him. Colossians 3:17 makes it clear: whatever we do—words or deeds—can be done in the name of the Lord.
Hence, it makes me wonder: how many words do our mouths speak in 24 hours? How many of these utterances edify people? Do we speak negatively about people or situations? Are we aware that every little word we say can bless the Lord, encourage others, bring a solution to a problem, or inspire someone to dream? And our deeds—how many actions can we do from 9AM-5PM alone? Do our deeds bless the heart of God? Do our actions show people our love for them? When our lives are filled with love, people cannot help but gravitate toward the Source of love, GOD.
I am reminded of something the revivalist, Charles Finney, once said: “Every step you take vibrates to all eternity. Every move echoes over the hills and valleys of heaven, and through the caverns of hell. Every movement of your life exerts an influence that will reflect in the eternal destiny of people around you.”
There is power in the ordinary “everyday” that we do. Everything we say and everything we do can glorify Christ, make Him known to the people around us, and impact earth, heaven, and hell!
The little things in our lives matter to God. Let us not despise them.
