In this weeks iStudy, in the video portion of it, Mike Harding pulled an apple out of his pocket as he compared this delicious looking apple to Judas Iscariot. Judas, like the apple in Mike’s hand looked good on the outside but was rotten on the inside. Judas was one of the original 12 of the group Jesus would use to start His church. If that early group of Christ followers had one that appeared to be authentic but in reality was rotten on the inside, we should not be surprised to find the same in our churches today. Judas was a pretender and in churches today we find pretenders, attenders and contenders. Attenders just show up and that’s about it. They are not in or out, they just take up space for whatever reason. Pretenders are people like Judas, that look good and godly on the outside but inside are rotten. They are not right with God. God wants us all to be contenders and get involved in His kingdom work that he is inviting us to.
Are you contending for Jesus where he has placed you? Whether it be at school, in the workplace or at home, God’s people are called to “let their light shine” for Christ.

Challenging thoughts. Am I an attender, pretender or contender? For 2014 I’m committed to be a contender. Are you with me?
I really like this illustration, sometimes things are not as they seem.
