“What curriculum should I use?” “How do I teach reading?” “What about socialization?”

When I first started homeschooling, my daughters were in third and first grade. I worried about everything, from choosing curriculum to the daily schedule to finding friends. I spent hours building book lists, categorizing math manipulatives and planning science experiments. With all this work and worry, we were rolling along smoothly soon.

But then came the conviction from the Holy Spirit that I had missed the main thing. What did I believe, why did I believe it and how was I going to teach and model it to my children? Of course, I knew the answers to those questions generally. I believed that “if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9) I realized that the core of our homeschool was Jesus Christ and therefore our most important subject. I knew that if they were to have the sword and shield of Christ they had to know the bible. However I felt ill equipped to teach my girls about our faith.

I knew bible study was the best remedy, so I immediately signed up for a class at church. It was the perfect solution! However, I had to miss over half the sessions because one of the kids was sick, or my husband was out of town, or the in-laws were visiting, and on and on. When I found iStudy online, all of those problems vanished. I tried out different time slots over the first few sessions and finally settled on a group that met at 8am on a weekday. My children were still sleeping, it did not matter if my husband was on the road, and I could still participate even with guests visiting or if I was out of town. It was a lifesaver.

iStudy solved all my logistical problems for sure. But even more importantly, it has equipped me to take up my cross daily and given me the tools I need to disciple my children with confidence in His name.
