As it is written: “I have made you a father of many nations.” He is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed—the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not.” Romans 4:17

There is something about sound preceding manifestation. In the beginning, the Voice of God rang out over the darkness, saying “Let there be light,” and light came.

In Romans 4:17, we see a reference being made to Abraham, the “father of many nations.” Before Abraham had any children, God told Abraham to look at the stars and said, “So shall your descendants be. (Gen. 15)

In the book of 2 Kings, before Jehu became king of Israel and killed Jezebel, God used a prophet to anoint the Commander of Israel’s army and to say the words, ”Thus says the LORD: ‘I have anointed you king over Israel. You shall strike down the house of Ahab your master… .’ ” (2 Kings 9:6,7)

Like these three examples, we may have things in our lives that aren’t manifesting yet; of which need to be called forth. This “speaking out” of words can be likened to water being poured over a seed in the darkness of the soil so it grows.

When we call forth the things that should be, even when we don’t see them occur at the present time, we exercise our faith. Speaking out in faith is speaking out the will of our Father in Heaven over our lives and the situations around us. It is an echo of Jesus’ prayer:

“Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.” Matt. 6:10

However, we have to ask ourselves: do we know the will of our Father in Heaven over our lives and our situations? Do we know it enough to speak it out?

Our faith should be inextricably linked with the Word of God. There is a difference between mantras of mere wishing and visualization to speaking out the Word. We will know more of our Father when we read His words. We will know our Father’s will and His heart when we immerse ourselves in His Word.

When we speak out God’s Word and His heart and will over ourselves, other people, and our situations, we declare Heaven’s plans over what our eyes can’t see; the Father’s will to manifest even in a seeming impossibility.

And like the seed having its drink of water, we can in faith, watch God move over our lives, the lives of people, and our situations.

Reflection: Is there anything in our lives that need a speaking forth? Perhaps we can proclaim God’s Word, His heart, and will over our lives and our situations?
